HIP-HOP HEAVYWEIGHT RICK ROSS JOINS LIL WAYNE AT THE DOME
The phenomenal response by fans to the announcement that hip-hop’s biggest selling artist ever, Lil Wayne will perform on African soil for the very first time has created hype and excitement across the country. To accommodate the unprecedented demand for tickets, Canoc Productions, promoters of the South African leg of the Lil Wayne worldwide “I Am Still Music Tour” and media partner, Channel O today announced an extra 2000 tickets are available for the show at the Coca Cola Dome, Johannesburg on Friday, 9 December 2011. Booking at Computicket is open.
Big news from Canoc Productions and Channel O is their second announcement that six-foot-two, 300-pound Rick Ross – a “hip-hop heavyweight,” as described by the New York Times – will be joining Lil Wayne aka Weezy F Baby as the supporting act for the Johannesburg concert only.
Rick Ross rose from ruling Miami’s underground rap scene, to become 2006’s buzz-worthiest hip-hop artist with Port Of Miami, his #1 Pop/#1 R&B/#1 Rap major label debut album. Its unstoppable single “Hustlin’” reached sales of 1 million copies before the associated album had even been released. Most recently he released his studio albums Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don for the Maybach Music Group, a record label he founded. Like Lil Wayne, Ricky Ross is performing in Johannesurg for the first time.
Corey Gunz, Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine (Young Money’s President and life-long friend of Lil Wayne), Shannel, T-Streets and Jae Millz will tour with Lil Wayne, performing at the Bellville Velodrome, Cape Town on Wednesday, 7th December followed by the concert at the Coca Cola Dome, on Friday, 9th and ending at the Wavehouse in Durban on 11th December 2011. Continuing their sensational line-up of firsts Canoc Productions and Channel O are proud to host from the Young Money Entertainment stable,
On the local scene, In their continued effort to support South African musicians Canoc Productions is launching the Lil Wayne supporting act competition. This competition is two-fold by giving concert-goers the opportunity to design their own concert experience while at the same time creating a once in a lifetime opportunity for local musicians, DJ’s, dancers and bands to perform at one of the Lil Wayne concerts. The competition is split onto two main categories, one for established artists and the other for up and upcoming artists. In each of these categories there will be an opportunity for one DJ, a group of dancers plus a soloist, band or group to be selected.
To stand a chance at being selected to perform at these concerts, artists need to create profiles on www.listenwithcare.co.za, upload their content - video, songs and pictures and share it with their fans using social networks. Fans would need to view artist profiles on the site and vote for whom they want to see perform at the concert. Each fan is entitled to one vote per artist. The more votes an artist accumulates in a specific category the better a chance they stand to win to perform at their chosen concert venue. The website goes live from the 23 November 2011 and the competition ends on 4 December 2011.
The stage is set for South Africa to host the world’s “best” rapper, the world’s “largest” rapper, best of the Young Money crew and the best talent South Africa has to offer. This gig is too hot to drop. Book at Computicket by calling 0861 915 8000, visit www.computicket.com or visit your nearest Computicket outlet.
